Hi, my name is Kiran and I’m a multilingual Counsellor, Psychotherapist, Relationship Therapist and Family Mediator. I am a registered Senior Accredited member of NCS (National Counselling and Psychotherapy Society), the BACP (British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy), FMA (Family Mediators Association) and the FMC (Family Mediation Council).
I have 18 years experience of working in an educational environment and 16 years of Counselling experience.
I am fluent in English, Punjabi, Hindi & Urdu and I have been running a successful counselling practice in Leeds, Sheffield & Peterborough for the last 16 years.
My background and experience mean that I am aware of the cultural and language differences that may arise when seeking relationship help. Therefore, by being able to fluently counsel in the above languages helps me remove barriers between myself and the clients.
I believe counselling is a joint venture between the client and counsellor, this relationship is fundamentally important to allow you to experience growth and change, that we all go through in our lifetime.
Sometimes in life, we don't understand what is causing us pain, low self-esteem, mood swings, unsettled feeling, incompleteness from within, depression or just generally not being heard. This is when counselling can help us to resolve these issues that come with emotionally demanding day to day life.
My experience
I am experienced in counselling couples, individuals and families from all walks of life and backgrounds.
A number of things can impact our relationships. This can include a stressful work/life balance, negative behaviour patterns, poor communication or external influences.
I consider myself warm, approachable and non-judgemental. My aim is to ensure that you both feel comfortable and have a platform where you can equally express your thoughts and feelings. I will support you to communicate with one another. This way you will gain a better understanding of what each of you are experiencing and how you feel. We will then explore the changes that need to be made to enable you to move forward. I will give you the tools to implement these strategies.
I have helped individuals, couples & groups address a wide range of issues including Same sex relationships, Sexual Issues, Anxiety, Stress, Panic, Depression, Bereavement, Relationship Issues, Self-Confidence, OCD, Phobias, Anger Management, Career Issues, Career Change, Perfectionism, Mid-Life Crisis and Life Changing events, Fertility, various Addictions, Trauma, Abuse, Drug and Alcohol Issues, Bi-Polar Disorder and Borderline Personality Disorder.
I also Mentor Post & Undergraduate students at:

Professional relationship counselling
I understand it can take a lot of courage to take the first step and seek help for your relationship. However, by taking the time to repair and understand each other once again will help remind you, that at some point, your relationship was the most important contributor/factor to your happiness.
I provide a safe space which will allow you both the opportunity to talk openly and honestly with each other. I will encourage you both to listen empathetically so that you both feel ‘heard’.
Relationship counselling is not about attributing blame. Nor is it about me taking sides or forcing either one of you to take a particular course of action. It’s about helping you both develop a better understanding of each other, yourselves and the role you both play in the relationship. Together, we will explore your options and find an amicable way of moving forward once you have chosen your path.
Through seeking professional relationship help, will enable you both to work with me in order to facilitate change in your relationship. Sometimes, talking to someone with no connection to yourself or your partner is all it takes for you to gain perspective. This is where a professional relationship counsellor, like myself, can help you understand how outside factors such as family values, religion, culture, lifestyle and of course work affect your relationship.
Relationship counselling will help you reflect on the past and how it operates in the present. During our sessions, I will help you to communicate more effectively. Which will help you learn why misunderstandings, which may be minor, then escalate into an argument or an unresolvable situation. I will also help you negotiate and resolve conflicts where possible and understand the importance of compromise in a relationship.
Understanding cultural differences
I am aware of the cultural and language differences that may arise when seeking counselling but being able to fluently counsel in the above languages helps me to remove barriers between myself and my clients.
I have experience and understanding of many different issues adults and children face within the ethnic minority groups with regards to relationships, family, upbringing and general matters to do with day to day life.
I can show you how to address patterns of thought, feeling and behaviour that keep you stuck and how different strategies can enable you to achieve your goals, improve communication skills and enhance relationships.
In order for relationship counselling to be successful outcome it is important to find the right therapist for you.
Ethical standards
I work within the BACP ethical framework. I also undertake regular professional development and supervision.
